Cleans well, beeps a LOT, “requires” rinse agent

The positives: it has cleaned well so far, and that’s the main event. Even difficult to clean items come out better than expected. And I am realizing that I actually LIKE having a smaller utensil rack (I thought I would not), because I realize that I rarely ever used to fill the utensil rack in the old 18” dishwasher anyway, and I would rather devote that space to other things. Also, I got a scratch and dent model half price, so my “value” rating is better than I would have given had I paid full price. The negatives: 1. This dishwasher beeps a LOT! Today it somehow thought it was being started and then stopped, and it kept beeping, wanting to be started again. It will do this forever. I had to look up in the manual how to make the cycle cancel, and it was tricky to accomplish this—you have to make the cycle actually start before it will cancel. What is the point of having a “quiet” dishwasher if it beeps so much? I am going to have my friend the electronics whiz disable the beeper, even though this will likely disable the warrantee as well. It was beeping a lot on its first day as well. 2. This new dishwasher holds less stuff than my 13 year old Kenmore 18” model, which was falling apart and had to go. I notice when shopping online (virtually none of the 18” models were available for inspection as floor models locally), I was told that this is because they put so much internal space into soundproofing nowadays. Also, I don’t like the fact that the soundproofing material, bitumin, is carcinogenic, hence the Prop. 65 warning. I would rather sacrifice a little quiet. 3. The manual says that this dishwasher requires rinse agent. This was not mentioned in any of the online descriptions that I read of this model, and I read MANY. I don’t want to have additional chemicals from rinse aid slathered all over my “clean” dishes. As a result, my unaided the dishes come out VERY wet, wetter than the dishes did in my old Kenmore without using the heated dry setting. I use a dehumidifier in the house, so I just leave the door open and wait for the dishes to dry, rather than using the heated dry setting. But I resent not being told about this rinse aid requirement in advance.

Cheap & Sensitive Buttons

Just completely renovated a 1900s cottage and to make it more spacious, went with an open concept kitchen and to save space, needed a small dishwasher which this fit the bill. While it's perfect for the space the buttons are extremely sensitive. We've pressed up against it a few times and hit a button and once we do that, you cannot change the cycle or cancel anything and it continuously beeps until whatever cycle you accidentally hit is run. You can unplug it, cut power from the circuit breaker and no matter what, it remembers the erroneous cycle you hit.

So far so good.

Bought this to replace an Electrolux that lasted a solid 2 years (sarcasm). So far so good. On install, handling both brands side by side, the Whirlpool was definitely better built. Its obviously made with better quality materials. My skepticism comes with the computers involved, as that's what put the final nail in the coffin on the Electrolux. The Whirlpool is not loud at all, and even on the light cycle is doing a good job according to my better half. I own other Whirlpool appliances, and we have always be happy with them.

Flimsy build quality and poor washing

Bought 2 weeks ago and returned it. The door is flimsy, the top drawer feels like it’s gonna break each time you pull it and it doesn’t clean as well as my previous dishwasher.
